Thank you, Dean, for this tool. It is extremely useful, and I use it all the time. :)

I have finally downloaded the latest version, and I see it has more settings for X264 quality. I have been trying 2-pass VH, but it has taken over two days so far, and is still half-way through the second pass. :o

May I ask if you can see a difference in quality with this high a setting? What setting do you recommend I use to get a good balance between speed and quality?

Thank you for your time and thank you again for a great tool.

I never use these VHQ modes, because they take ages! :)

The one you ask for is 1 Pass Turbo (or 2 pass Fast).

You can try the 'Insane' one and see if you'll notice quality degradation.

Thank you for your quick reply, Dean. I appreciate your help.

Wow! :o 1 Pass Turbo is good quality? That is amazing. Most programs advise avoiding turbo settings. :)

I shall try 2 pass fast next time and hope it is quicker. It sounds a good choice.

Thank you so much, Dean! :D

Well, 'turbo' mode in multiAVCHD and uncropMKV is not like in other programs.. and it is not the 'turbo' option passed to the encoder. It is just a name for a profile :)

2pass fast is about the same in speed as 1 pass (normal).

Here is comparison between profiles with 60 seconds 1920x1080 sample:

You can see that the difference between the slowest (2pass vhq) and the fastest (insane) is about 10 times in speed. :)

Before I added these profiles, uncropMKV was using what is now "1 PASS (NORMAL)"

Oh, I see. :) Thank you for explaining that. It is much clearer now.

So if it is a matter of speed, could you explain how faster speed does not make the quality worse? I still do not understand this part.

Are the slow settings just there for people who want to be extra careful? It does not seem that there is much point choosing VHQ, if there is no real difference in quality lol.

Well, there is a difference, but sometimes it is SO small that it is almost not visible and makes no sense to waste 24 hours in encoding, when you can do it in 3 hrs.

If you're using uncropMKV to prepare files for multiAVCHD, I'd suggest to use multiAVCHD's transcode function. It is much better than the one in uncropMKV.

Yes; I have been using uncropMKV for that. I have never used multiAVCHD, but I shall download it and give it a try. :)
