Hi Dean,

The error appears by every *.mkv that contains subtitles. When i ignore the Subtitles the Authoring Process ends without warning and the AVCHD is playable in my PS3.

Here's my log File and i hope you can help my with this problem.

The problem is with the subtitles. I can't think of all formats and errors of the people around the world who put different tracks in the MKV files. Demux the subtitles with mkvextract and take a look at them... Or fix them with Subtitle Workshop.

You can enable [x] Advanced subtitle processing in SUBTITLE&AUDIO and check if it will make any difference.

SINCE YOUR BURNING BLU RAY.THE SUBTITLES ARE MOSTLY LIKELY SRT FORMAT. I WOULD USE THE EASYSUP PROGRAM TO GET THE SUBTITLES FORMATED FOR BD KNOWN AS BD SUP. TSMUXER DOES NOT OUTPUT SRT FILES

I have seen the same error a couple of times - the transcoding was OK, but when it comes to the processing of the subtitle, then I get the same error. It took me some time to figure out the reason. When processing the MKV without subtitles, then always everything went fine.

When I see now, that the mkv contains subtitles, then I'm using MeGUI to extract the subtitle(s). If the subtitle is in SRT format, then you need to check the file with a normal text editor like notepad.

One thing I want to know is the content of the subtitel - does it contain everything what's spoken (usually those files are "big" - 50 KB or more) or does it contain translations of text messages or speech, which you can see in the movie and they have another language (those files are "small" - 1 to 3 KB). It's up to you to decide what you want o keep.

Anyhow, if you want to keep that subtitle, then you need to check it with a text editor. The SRT files are having the following format:

<id1>
<start-time1> --> <end-time1>
<text1>
(<text2>)

<id2>
<start-time2> --> <end-time2>
<text2-1>
(<text2-2>)

The second text line is optional.

This is a good example:

1
00:00:26,694 --> 00:00:28,111
Rühren.

2
00:00:30,447 --> 00:00:32,281
Ihr Name?

3
00:00:33,701 --> 00:00:35,118
David Ackerman.

But in case, that the processing fails, then I always have found in the SRT files empty line(s) (just only a carriage return + line feed) between the time code of the text to display and the real text line, e.g. like this:

1
00:00:26,694 --> 00:00:28,111

Rühren.

or

2
00:00:30,447 --> 00:00:32,281

Ihr Name?

3
00:00:33,701 --> 00:00:35,118
David Ackerman.

If you find those empty line(s) between the time code and the real text, then delete the empty lines, save the file.

In order to let multiAVCHD detect this new subtitle file automatically as external subtitle file you need to rename the file to <name_of_mkv_file>.<language_code>.srt, e.g. "Outlander.2008.1080p.BluRay.DTS.DL.x264-HDC.deu.srt" - if I use the name of your mkv-file as example, and put it in the same directory as your mkv file. Otherwise you need to add this subtitle file as external subtitle file in the "Title properties" under the tab "External subtitles" manually.

Now you have to remove the original subtitle(s) - because you have now a good one - in the "Title properties" under the tab "Subtitles".

Start the encoding and the problem should be solved - at least this is my experience.

By the way - I just have seen - that the latest version of MeGUI (0.3.5.0) could create in addition a file like <name_of_mkv_file>.mkv.chapters.<language_code>.srt. You have to delete this file before open the real mkv-file in multiAVCHD, otherwise it will show up under the tab "External subtitels"

I hope, that I could help you.

@dean,

this is an issue, I have faced a lot of times. Not sure, what the root cause is - maybe the tools, which are creating the subtitles in SRT-Format out of BR or DVD. I think it would be wise to have this kind of instructions for handling subtitles as a sticky note in the forum to avoid multiple postings about failures in encoding when the MKV-Files contains subtitles.

Kind Regards and thank you very much for the tool - even I still need to use version version 3.0 build 729

There is an option in multiAVCHD [x] Parse and fix SRT/SSA subtitles. It is there for a long time and should fix such errors on the fly.
